Traffic

Please be reminded, again, that with three schools using one site, traffic around the school during drop-off and pickup times can be very congested. Matters are not helped by the 6 buses needed to transport Cavell students to and from the old Maple Grove school daily. We remind all parents to please consider parking a block or two away from the school and enjoy a walk with your child to set the tone for the day or to set them up for success. It’s a great way to find out what’s been happening at school and to connect with your child.

FSA

The Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) testing for grades 4 and 7 students begins in the coming weeks. Notices have been sent home to parents of students in grades 4 and 7. The testing runs from Oct 4 through Nov 10. It can take up to 6 hours of school time to complete. It tests for literacy and numeracy skills. It provides a snapshot of where the student may be with their learning at a particular point in time. For more general information, please google 2021 FSA or have a look at the online parent brochure: Click here
Parents may excuse their child from writing the test by completing the following form:
Link to the Notice to be returned to the school
The school may choose to excuse your child from writing part or all of the test if the teacher feels that the testing may be onerous or cause undue stress on a student. If your child is being excused from writing, you will receive a letter from the school.
EARTHQUAKE DRILL- Oct 21

Usually in October BC practises the Big Shake Out. This is a chance for institutions to practice their earthquake procedures/ readiness. This year, due in part to timing and Covid, Maple Grove will only do a partial controlled. This means that we will select a class to participate in the release process which will involve parents coming to the school; lining up; and signing their child out of school for the day. This will give our staff a chance to practice these emergency procedures and reunification process. More information to come.
