February 26th Update

Wednesday February 24 saw Maple Grove staff and students celebrate Pink Day. We hosted a fabulous virtual assembly with participation from all students and staff. Please see the link to view the one hour presentation. https://youtu.be/3a6W6E0Q3N0

On Thursday February 25, students and staff from the grade 1,2,3 learning pod celebrated the 100^th day of school by dressing as elderly folks noting that they are now 100 days smarter. See attached photo.

Morning basketball skills and drills continue next week for all grade 4 – 7 students who have returned a signed consent form to Mr Land. Tuesday and Thursday March 2 and 4 are for grade 4s and 5s. Wednesday and Friday March 3 and 5 are for grade 6s and 7s.

On March 9 at 7pm there is a parent presentation titled TECH, COVID and KIDS, by Dr. Shimi Kang. More information is coming soon. This is a shared initiative with 8 VSB elementary PACs.

On March 10 the 3 schools on site, Maple Grove, Cavell, and Magee will be combining for a joint LOCKDOWN Drill with the Vancouver Police Department. This has been done in the past with Maple Grove and Magee, but of course this year we are in a new building and will be adding Cavell. We will have a considerable VPD presence on our shared campus during the drill. The VPD will then be entering each school as part of the drill ensuring that classrooms/teaching areas are safe and secure. There will be a joint VPD/VSB Admin debrief following the drill.

Many Option 4 students are returning to school Monday March 1 at 9:15am. Administration will briefly meet with the parents and students outside, undercover at the North entrance on 45^th avenue. Administration will then take the students inside for further COVID protocols, give a short tour, and deliver the students to their new classroom. ANY Option 4 student who has not yet decided to return to in-school instruction, has the opportunity to return on any Monday after March 1, provided the family informs our school office staff by the previous Thursday.
