Video of the New Maple Grove
We know that parents would love to see inside our beautiful new school. We were fortunate to have a videographer from Vancouver School Board come to the school and film teachers and show you the inside of the new building. We are absolutely thrilled to be here and finally unpacked! Click the link below to take a tour with us:
Message from Mr. Richard Zerbe
As you know, there have been some admin changes. Please read the letter below from Mr. Zerbe, Director of Instruction, that explains the changes at Maple Grove.
———————————————————————————————
Dear Maple Grove families,
This letter is to inform you of some upcoming administrative staffing changes.
Our Principal, Mr. Peter Evans, has recently experienced some medical issues that require him to be away from his duties for longer than expected. Mr. Kevin Land will continue on as acting Principal in his stead until further notice.
As you know, our Vice Principal, Ms Lia Cuccurullo, is expecting a child with Friday of this week being her last day at Maple Grove. We are happy that retired elementary administrator, Ms. Natalie Morissette, has agreed to serve as acting Vice Principal from February 22 to March 12. Our school will receive a permanent Vice Principal following Spring Break with an announcement coming next week.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Morissette and in thanking Ms. Cuccurullo for her wonderful support to the staff, students and families of Maple Grove. You will be missed, Ms. Cuccurullo. We wish you and your new family all the very best.
We know also that you join us in wishing Mr. Evans the very best for a speedy recovery. We will be sharing the news appropriately with students and inviting them to share any get-well wishes to him through classroom activities.
Sincerely,
Richard Zerbe Director of Instruction – Education Services Office of the Superintendent Vancouver School Board 1580 West Broadway Vancouver BC V6J 5K8 phone: 604-713-5097 I acknowledge that I live, work and play on the unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples – sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations. |
Goodbye from Ms. Cuccurullo
Maple Grove Families,
It has been an absolute joy being at the school for the past 6 months. Maple Grove is a true gem – a place where staff, students and parents work collaboratively to foster excellence each day. I am very sad to be leaving but I have an exciting new adventure that is waiting for me. My baby boy is due on March 12th and I am looking forward to becoming a Mom for the first time. I am nervous, excited, anxious – all the emotions! Thank you for supporting me and I hope to be back again one day

Congratulations, Ms. New!
Ms. New was selected as 1 of 50 educators from across North America to go on an expedition to an incredible destination on planet earth! Once it is safe to do so, she will be sent on board a ship with experts, naturalists, photographers and fellow adventurers. And most excitingly, she will be bringing back her amazing learning here to Maple Grove to inspire the students! We are very proud of Ms. New – way to go!

Option 4 Return to in-school learning
We are welcoming back many Option 4 students on Monday, March 1. For those remaining “Learning from Home” re-entry to in-school learning can happen on future Mondays. Parents must inform the school on the Thursday before the Monday that they wish to return to allow for teachers to prepare for them.
Return to Play – Stage 2 for Physical Activity
The Vancouver Board of Education is pleased to be reopening elementary school sports programs effective Feb. 18, 2021. We are now in the VSB Return to Play Stage 2. By offering school sports activities, we will be adhering to the standards, guidelines, and protocols from the Provincial Health Officer B.C.C. Communicable Disease Control, Vancouver Coastal Health, Ministry of Education, Vancouver School District and B.C. School Sports.
We at Maple Grove will be focusing on skills and drills, starting with basketball for any grade in 4,5,6 & 7 who is interested and returns a signed consent form. No games are permitted in Stage 2, you can visit BCSS Return to School Sport Plan to learn about policies for stage 1 – 4.
Depending on the number of students who are interested and who return the signed consent form, each grade (4-7) will start with one morning per week in the gym from 8:15 – 8:55. Students will need proper gymnasium footwear. Basketballs will be provided. There would be a maximum of 50 students participating in each session. We hope to start with Grade 7s on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8:15 am.
