January 15th Update

Principal Remarks

Dear Maple Grove Parents,

Thanks to our new Cavell Neighbours:
I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge our new Cavell neighbours! The past two weeks have been seamless between the two schools and considering the packing; move; unpacking; then repacking and going back to Cavell in August; unpacking there and then teaching; and packing again in December; moving over Christmas; unpacking and getting started teaching in a new old school… I think they deserve a big round of applause. Ms. Smith, our previous VP, is their Principal, and she has been very considerate and cognizant of the two schools working so closely together. Thank you Maple Grove for being thoughtful and welcoming to our guests.

Foundation Skills Assessment:
FSA testing dates has been pushed back into February by the MoE. This is the second delay. Information for parents will be coming out shortly. It applies only to grades 4 and 7 students.

Mr. Evans Absence:
I will be on leave for 3-4 weeks. The timing is not great, but I have to get some old injuries taken care of while I have the chance. Retired Principal, Mr. Kevin Land, will be here in my absence. Mr. Land filled in for me before Christmas, when my father was ill and I had to take some time to care for him. My last day will be Wednesday. Welcome Mr. Land.

Ms. Cuccurullo:
Upon my return, I am hopeful that Ms. Cuccurullo and I will have 2 weeks together before she goes off on a Mat leave. Ms. Cuccurullo has been a wonderful addition to the school-based admin team and she will be greatly missed. We wish her, and her family well.

Professional Learning Communities at Maple Grove:
Maple Grove is doing a lot of great work with learning communities presently and deeper learning. We will be building on that throughout the year. The staff have made the move and transition from the old building to the new building quite seamlessly. Its a testament to their professionalism and adaptability.

Monday, January 18th is a Professional Development Day – No School for Students!
