October 30th Update

Happy Halloween

Look who we found creeping around the school today. This motley crew were out and about supervising students so one of our Supervision Aides managed to snap a quick pic before they scattered into the early evening.

We would like to remind all our families to exercise good road sense tomorrow evening. Children should be in brightly coloured costumes, easily visible to drivers, travel with an adult, and always let a parent inspect candy before eating.

We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween evening.

Re-Entry Date #2 November 9th

For our Option 4: Learning From Home Transition families we have sent home another survey to check-in to see if you will be returning for Re-Entry #2, or waiting until Re-Entry #3.

There is no rush or judgement from the school. We are merely trying to assess our numbers and ensure we have measures in place for student safety.

ONLY if you are on Option 4 should you complete the survey. Families presently on F2F instruction do NOT complete the survey.

New Building – 1924 45th Ave W.

The VSB asked Cavell and Maple Grove to send home letters to their parent communities. On Thursday, Oct 29th, Maple Grove sent home a letter stating that our LAST day in the EXISTING school will be NOVEMBER 20th.

Our FIRST day in the NEW SCHOOL will be November 23rd.

Once in the new school, we will NOT BE ALLOWED in the old school as it will be undergoing cleaning and Covid cleaning.

We have asked our VSB Communications Dept to come to the new school and shoot a video of it; create a link; so that we can share the experience of the new school with our parents as schools in BC remain closed to the public. We will have more to say on this shortly.

Remembrance Day

Maple Grove is having a Remembrance Day Assembly on November 10 at 11:00 am.

We are pleased to have everyone able to join virtually. Watch for an email with the link coming sometime next week. We have been working on virtual assemblies and completed one dry-run. We discussed Halloween safety and our Code of Conduct. We’re very excited to share our Remembrance Day Assembly (Nov 10th ) with you.

This is an important time of year when we remember our Veterans of past wars and those who are still serving. It is the time of year when poppies are widely distributed in our communities as a symbol of the peace that was won by our men and women in uniform. Each student at Maple Grove will be given one poppy on the day of our assembly.

We are asking your support in making a donation to assist with the care of our Veterans and their dependents. You can donate via your child’s CashOnLine account. Minimum donation is $2.00. If you would like to donate more, please purchase more than one $2.00 item. Due to COVID restrictions, we cannot accept cash. A sincere THANK YOU for your contribution.
