Wildfire Smoke

Good evening parents,

Many of the school districts in the Greater Vancouver Area have been receiving inquiries from parents regarding the smoke that has blanketed parts of the lower mainland.

The VSB drafted a letter that all schools are to share with their parent communities. Maple Grove will post the letter here, and send a copy via our SIS MyEd system to all families:

Dear Families,

All Vancouver Schools will be open tomorrow, Monday September 14, 2020.

The health and safety of students and staff is the top priority of the Vancouver School District.  District staff have been monitoring wildfire smoke projections and health advisories, and will continue to do so.  As with all public health matters, the District follows the guidance of Vancouver Coastal Health.

Should the current compromised air quality continue, vigorous activities like planned PE classes outdoors, will not take place. In addition, students who are sensitive to smoke will be allowed to remain indoors during breaks.  Exterior windows and doors will also be kept closed.

Please be assured that the District has many COVID-19 health and safety control measures in place including maximizing physical distancing, practising respiratory etiquette, student learning groups, frequent hand hygiene and enhanced cleaning protocols.  Families are reminded to complete daily health checks prior to sending children to school.

We look forward to welcoming students to the first full day of classes tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Mr. Evans, Principal
Ms. Cuccurullo, Vice-Principal
