PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
Wow!!!! What an amazing week at Maple Grove! It’s been very busy and Thursday evening was a wonderful and engaging way to showcase and celebrate our awesome Maple Grove students! Every child in the school had art work on large panels as part o four ARTelicious Extravaganza. Big thanks to the students for all their hard work and attention to detail. Special thanks to the staff for being flexible with schedules and accommodating interruptions. Also thanks to the PAC and parents for supporting the initiative and helping to make the program successful. Finally, a very special thanks to Ms. Smith for all of her leadership, organizational skills and expertise in making the show a huge success.
Track & Field
On Tuesday Maple Grove’s Track & Field Team competed in the Zone Finals at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School.
All of our athletes gave their best efforts and represented Maple Grove well, with many athletes taking home ribbons in their respective events.
A big thank you to all of our amazing parent volunteers who came out today!
Congratulations Maple Grove!”
Destination Imagination Update
June, 2018
Dear School Community,
We are very grateful for the opportunity to go to the Destination Imagination Global Finals Tournament 2018, in Knoxville, Tennessee. We couldn’t have done it without your generous support! We learned a great deal about ourselves and the world. We participated in the Technical Challenge, “Maze Craze”, Middle Level. We finished 26th out of 87 teams who qualified from all over the world. As well as meeting kids our age from different parts of Canada and the US, we also met kids from South Korea, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and China. We especially enjoyed the pin trading, as it gave us the chance to meet and talk with kids from all around the world. The food was healthy, but kid-friendly. They served us everything from pizza and hamburgers, to local cuisine, including barbeque and grits! One night, we had an International Dessert Party. The desserts were delicious! Once we were finished presenting our solution, we were free to explore The Expo and Innovations which was an exhibition of the latest science and technologies. For example, we tested a pair of goggles which shifted our vision which in turn changed our muscle memory. The opening and closing ceremonies included performances by professional entertainers, who were DI alumni!
We also spent time watching other teams’ solutions to the same challenge. We learned that teams from different countries had different ways of thinking about world problems which we all share. We have been inspired to become more open-minded, and this global experience has shown us that there are many ways to solve a problem.
Your generous sponsorship allowed our team to test our problem-solving skills and we are encouraged to try to take on the world again next year. You can be sure that we will use these new skills and positive attitude and apply them to our daily lives and our future educational endeavours.
Again, thank you for sponsoring “DI-MAZE-ing Idea”!
We had perfect weather for bike to school week. We helped the planet by reducing emissions, and looked after ourselves by starting the day with healthy exercise.
A special thank you to Adam, Meher and Sofia for helping with the sign ins.
