May 19- Long weekend Edition

principals-message-1Principal’s Message

Good Afternoon,
I just wanted to thank all of the parents for the lovely get well gift.  I truly appreciated the kind thoughts and well-wishes.  It’s wonderful to be back with a clean bill-of-health.  I want to thank and acknowledge Mr. Brian Anderson for acting as Principal while I was away.  I was pleased to know that the school was under his experienced and watchful eye.  I would like to recognize our Vice Principal, Lindsay Thompson!  Ms. Thompson looked after much of the day-to-day operations of the school and many of the ongoing projects that required admin involvement.  Thank you!  I’d also like to acknowledge the staff for carrying on and doing what they do best- teaching.  It’s so nice to see that there are so many people who are willing and able to pick up extra bits and to go the distance! Thank you all.  Finally, I’d like to thank Ms. Peters and Ms. Lincoln for always working through tasks no matter how many interruptions, On this last day before the Victoria Day long weekend, it’s nice to take a moment to write to you with a couple of updates.  It’s been a busy year at MG and I’m happy to see that we’re progressing in many areas (FSA results, and seismic status) to name a few.

Regional Heritage Fair

Yesterday, a group of 11 students represented Maple Grove at the Regional Heritage Fair at Prince of Wales Secondary. They spent the day talking with judges and making new friends. Students also spent time working with City of Vancouver planners and engineers to help design the future of the Arbutus Greenway.

You will have the chance to talk to the students themselves and see their projects in person on Saturday, May 20 at 2:30pm at the Kerrisdale Community Centre.

Registration for the 2017-2018 soccer season with Vancouver United FC is now open. VanU FC is the largest youth soccer club for boys and girls in Vancouver for ages 3 – 17.

What do we offer?

Our Active Start program (ages 3 – 7, or U4 – U8) is one of the best soccer development programs in Vancouver and highly acknowledged by past and present families.  It is focused on fun, physical literacy (learning fundamental movement skills), and soccer skill development.

The U9/U10 House program (ages 8 and 9) transitions the players to a new format from Active Start, playing 6-aside games on slightly larger fields.  There is one practice during the week and a game on the weekend.

The U11/U12 program (ages 10 and 11) has another transition to 8-aside games on half fields; and there is one practice during the week and a game on the weekend.

The Divisional U13-U18 program starts at age 12 and moves to full fields, weekly practices, and 11-aside games each weekend.
