November 18th Update

principals-messagePRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,
Thank you to those who were able to join us for our Remembrance Day Assembly last week.  Many parents have contacted me to say how touching the event was… and how wonderful it was to have a piper (albeit loud).  Next year, we are looking at modifying the assembly slightly so it’s not too loud for our younger students.

We want to acknowledge all the parents who have been volunteering their time around the school.  From your PAC Executive, to Hot Lunch helpers, to Classroom Parents to the Kilometer Club parents.  Also thank you to all the parents who can’t always make it out the the school, but support the school in so many other ways.  We appreciate your generosity, kindness and support.  Thank you!

I was particularly distressed this week to find that one of our students was struck by a car at the corner of Cypress and 47th Ave.  While it was only a bump, and the student was checked out by EMS and VFD and deemed to be fine, he was a reminder for all parents and students to exercise good road sense when walking, driving or biking.   With the short days of autumn, it’s quite dark in the mornings, and gets dark early in the evenings.  Wear bright clothing if you can and be aware of your surroundings.  Please exercise caution.

For parents of grade 4 and 7 students, please know that UBC and the VSB have postponed MDI surveys until Fall 2017.   The next set of testing or surveys will be the FSA testing in the new year.

Regards, Principal Evans

Fresh to You Fundraiser a Success!

Thank you to everyone who supported the Fresh to You fundraiser – to families and staff who purchased bundles, to parent volunteers who filled the orders, and to students in Mr. Naipaul’s class who delivered the orders to the classrooms. We sold 85 bundles (over 940 lbs. of locally grown fruits and veggies) and raised over $700. Congratulations to Nika Zondag in Division 1 who sold 29 bundles.
