Dearest Maple Grove!

Our first Halloween Dance Party is quickly approaching!  Please come and and celebrate with your fellow ghosts, goblins, princesses and Pokemon’s!  If you haven’t already done so, please send in your pizza pre-order form to the office so we can have dinner waiting you when you arrive!

We will be having a cake walk and are looking for cakes and cupcakes, etc for donation!  We LOVE homemade but a yummy store-bought something is awesome too!  Let’s avoid NUTS to keep everyone safe and healthy!  Please drop off your baked donation to the lunch room anytime after lunch on Friday, October 28th or at my house on the front porch at 2079 West 45th Ave anytime.  I would love a little email (ckbogart@shaw.ca) to let me know if you plan to donate so I know how many tasty treats I have to deal with!!

So excited to see you all there!!!!!

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT WITH TODD SCHLEYER

Dear Parents,

We are very happy to offer to you, with support of your PAC Executive a Parent Information Night with Todd Schleyer.  Todd Schleyer has worked for the Vancouver school Board for over 10 years.   The focus of his work as a STIBS (Student Teacher Intensive Behavioural Support) worker has been the education and delivery of Social Emotional learning curriculum in the classroom and school wide.   Offering Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to this generation of learners will help to provide a greater understanding of the changing world around them.
Todd started working with the Maple Grove staff last year during the course of our 6 Pro D days.  As part of our Pro D, we agreed to have Todd as a resident staff member during the month of Sept/Oct so that he could work with individual students and classes on the notion of SEL.  He has introduced staff and students to brain-based learning, Zones of Regulation and StrongKids social emotional learning programs.
We thought it would be beneficial for you to see, hear, and speak with Todd about the work going on in classes at Maple Grove and how some of the gains made at school may be transferable to the home.  Todd will give a presentation and then do a Q & A period at the end of the presentation.  We encourage all parents to come and listen to this knowledgeable  behavioural strategist talk about Maple Grove and our social emotional learning.

“We also believe that self-regulation is an essential capacity for learning and healthy human development.”  Stuart Shanker.
