May 6th Update

principals-message-1Principal’s Message

Good Afternoon Maple Grove Parents!  Things are rolling along at school.  With 8 weeks to go we’re a bee hive of activity.  We’re in for a warm weekend- and I know families are already looking into summer plans for their children.  We encourage you to read through the blog and pay particular attention to the list of dates at the end (this will be your guide to get through the remainder of the year).

As many of you know, the Board of Trustees voted not to accept proposals that would cut approximately 24 million dollars in services, resources, programs and support to the VSB operating budget.  The result is a fair degree of uncertainty as the district tried to plan for the staffing, budgeting, and organization of next school year.  This will all get worked out over the coming weeks, so we ask for your patience and indulgence while we await further direction from the district.   I will write more shortly.

Thank you, Mr. Evans

FRESH IS BEST – Veggie Fundraiser

URGENT

If your family purchased a Veggie Basket from our recent fundraiser, your child will be coming home with it on Tuesday, May 10th.  Please keep refrigeration in mind as the baskets contain bean sprouts.  These baskets cannot be stored at school so must be distributed and taken home on this day!

Thanks for your support!

We need a small number of willing volunteers to come and help us sort the veggies for our Fresh is Best Veggie fundraiser on Tuesday, May 10th between 9:30-11:30am.  The truck will drop off our veggies and we just need to sort them into baskets for pick up after school.  Shouldn’t take long!  Alternatively, you could help hand the baskets out after school on Thursday if the morning doesn’t work!

Please let Estelle or Karrie know if you can help.

Thanks in advance!

traffic issues

Traffic Alert!  Please be extra cautious!

Now that SW Marine drive is closed to all but local traffic from May – September 2016, the local roads are picking up the extra traffic. The 49 bus is being re-routed south on East Boulevard.

There are also 2 construction projects nearby (49th and West Boulevard (Cressey) and 47th and East Boulevard (Trassolini / Chetner) which means that there are dumps trucks and cement trucks going up and down the boulevards.

To add to this there is an on-going movie set at the corner of 45th and East Boulevard that has begun and will continue over the next 4 months.

Please be extra careful crossing East and West Boulevards.  Parents  might even consider sending a letter to Cressey, Trasolini + Chetner, the community policing office and the City advising them of this horrific traffic congestion so nearby to schools with a population of about 1700 students.
