Principal’s Message
Dear Families,
This will be a short blog. I’ve elected to send out all the important spring information after the spring break.
It’s late in the afternoon. The rain has started, once again, and the wind is shaking the old windows of the school. It’s unusually quiet for 5:30 on a Friday. Normally, Maple Grove staff, are busy prepping, wrapping up the week, meeting and planning, or working quietly in their rooms. As we enter a spring break with Easter Friday, Sunday and Monday attached on the last weekend, I want to wish all of you a wonderful, restful holiday. May the joys and delights of this time away from school shine upon you and your family. Term 3 will start on Tuesday, March 29th. My experience over the past 29 years has been that it’s a sprint to the end of the school year. Enjoy the break and we look forward to working with all of you after the break.
Science Fair Finalists
Please refer back to last week’s blog for some random pics of last week’s science fair at Maple Grove. Maple Grove also entered several science fair exhibits in the regional science fair. Congratulations to our amazing Science Fair finalists- Siriane, Sarah P, Karl, Areeb, Kevin G, Tim, Sam and Cheryl. Above you see 3 of our students who received medals for their wonderful projects. All of the students should be proud that they represented our school well and they conducted amazing experiments with sound scientific method. Special thanks to Ms. Humeniuk and Ms. Wong for supervising chaperoning the students.
Magee 40th Annual Massed Band Concert
Congratulations to the Junior and Senior choir who performed March 3rd at Magee Secondary. Both bands have worked hard under the direction of Ms M. MacAulay. Since October they have learned several challenging pieces. We were very proud of their poise and accomplishments.
Parents: Please note that after Spring Break band times switch. ie., Junior band is at 8am until 9am and Senior band is at 9am until 10:30 on Thursdays.
UBC Study on Vaccine Hesitancy in Middle Childhood
Researchers at BC Children’s Hospital are interested in learning about the ways parents’ opinions and concerns about childhood vaccinations (shots) change over time. If you have a child ages 6-12 years, and your thoughts and feelings about vaccinations have changed since you first became a parent, you may be eligible to participate in a confidential interview that will improve healthcare in BC. Interviews will take place in a private place and participants will receive a $25 gift card as a thank-you. If you would like more information or are interested in an interview, please email VECstudies@cfri.ca or call 604-875-2187 and leave a message including your name, contact information, and that you are interested in the study “Vaccine Hesitancy in Middle Childhood.”
