Principal’s Message
Special Thanks- Special thanks to Kim Herter and Lisa Rappoport for volunteering to make the arrangements for the school to take receipt of some furniture donated from from Vancouver Kidsbooks. Thanks also to our fabulous Teacher Librarian, Mrs. Tornroos for organizing the donation.
Good Afternoon,
What a week! It flew by. Report Card day is just around the corner. Students and teachers are busily preparing for parent/teacher and student-led conferences. Please know that conferences are on Wednesday and Thursday, March 9+10. Students will be dismissed at 2:00 pm on these days. We will only be able to provide limited supervision, please make sure you make the appropriate arrangements to pick up your children.
Today was an especially busy day at Maple Grove. We were fortunate enough to have a visit from some of the members of the Canadian Men’s National Field Hockey Team. The guys talked about elite sports, leadership, travelling the world, and demonstrated some field hockey skills and tricks.
Thank you to Susan Kong (parent) and Ms. Barreira for connecting us with the team. Thanks also to the guys for taking time out of their busy training schedules and visiting with Maple Grove students. Go Canada Go!!!

Long Range Facilities Plan- this has been in the news lately due to the link to seismic upgrading. It has to do with re-purposing some schools; swing space; it’s adjusted annually and is a road map for the district in terms of short and medium range planning.
VSB-LRFP-newsletter 2 (003)New Curriculum Planning- Many teachers in the district attended a very informative day last week with Ministry staff regarding the New Curriculum. Maple Grove has a planning team who will be meeting on Feb 17th to plan for our curriculum planning days (March 4 and April 15)
Satisfaction Surveys- details coming after the FSA tests are completed.
Many families have signed up to purchase anti-bullying T-shirts this year. T-shirts have arrived. Please know they will be available for pick up from the office on Monday, February 22nd.
Sr Boys Basketball: Please know that Coaches Evans, Barreira, and Humeniuk were all very pleased with the Sr. Boys Basketball Team. The boys finished their season with an exciting win 100-78. All of the boys displayed excellent development with their skills and sportsmanship over teh course of the season. The Sr. Boys Team practised three times per week and played 1 game each week. It was a real commitment by the players. Maple Grove carried the most players out of all the teams in the league. This was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to bond, develop skills and learn about commitment to the team. In recognition of their outstanding season, the coaches are hosting a celebration for the boys on Thursday, February 25th at 12:10 in the Library (pizza party) yeah!!

Also, congratulations to Areeb (Division 1) for being runner up. Special thanks to Mrs. Humeniuk for sponsoring and organising the event. Also, thanks to Mrs. Tornroos (our pronouncer), and to Ms. Sleep and Mr. Evans for being judges.
PAC News
Dear Parents, Please know that we are continuing with our Friday morning coffee group. This is a fun-filled, informative social time where we get together in library each Friday morning to socialize and get caught up on community and school events. It’s completely social. There is no structure or speeches. It’s a great way to connect with other parents in the school and to make new friends. Staff are often on hand between 8:40 and 9:00. Ms. Sleep and Mr. Evans usually stop by between 9:00-9:30. Please join us. Don’t miss out on the baked goodies (hehehe)
The VSB2021 Survey is open only until February 21st for parent input.
Its critical we as parents provide input and have our voices heard! In light of status quo funding from Govt, the strategic plan will have real implications for funding decisions around programming, staffing and resource distribution across the district.
This is a great opportunity for parents/guardians, teachers, stakeholders – everyone – to give their feedback! We need to capitalize on this chance and encourage everyone in our networks to fill in the survey, candidly and thoughtfully. If you haven’t already done so, please participate in the survey – http://fluidsurveys.com/s/VSB2021/
