Principal’s Remarks
I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to all of you who were able to come out to our annual fall goal setting conferences. I hope that you found the conferencing time with the teachers beneficial. Special thanks to the teachers for staying late into the evening and for preparing so much material to share with parents.
On October 2, we had our first staff Pro D session. The Pro D Committee wanted to have some staff development time (team building, ice breakers, getting to know you) so we brought in a facilitator to help lead the teacher team through a number of activities and discussions around collaboration, working together, goal setting, building bridges and moving in a common direction. It was very worthwhile!! We also spent time working on a Maple Grove project called, Resident Experts. This is where we tap into all the skill sets, and strategies that many of our own staff already possess. We then report out and share with our colleagues. Finally, the FreshGrade Reporting Pilot team met in the PM and worked on a timeline for implementation and reporting out.
International Walk to School Week is October 5 – 9th 2015
For the week of October 5th to 9th we are encouraging all Maple Grove families to walk, roll, cycle or take the bus to school. Students traveling to and from school on transit can take the bus for free! Talk to your friends and plan a walking school bus or ask an adult to walk with you to school.
Traffic Around the School
Thank you to all those people who take the trouble to park a little way from the school. There are still a few who park illegally. We will be having the parking/traffic control officers visiting the school area over the next couple of weeks. They will be issuing tickets to those who are not following the posted regulations for safe driving/parking in a school zone. Our Safety Patrol students should be acknowledged for the care they take in making sure our students can cross the streets safely. Drivers should be aware and respectful of the safety patrol members.
Calling for more Volunteers
We have managed to secure class parents for all but a few divisions! Great job Maple Grove families! We are looking for a class parent for the following divisions still!
DIV 2 – Mr. Naipaul
DIV 10- Ms. Seebaran / Ms. Tsang
DIV 11 – Ms. Lam
Please email Karrie Bogart at ckbogart@shaw.ca if you are able to help out!
No Peanuts or Nuts at School Please!
Dear Parents,
It has come to our attention that students are bringing peanuts and nut products into the school. Please be aware that peanuts and nut products are not allowed at Maple Grove. We have several children with severe allergies to peanuts and exposure poses a very real threat to their health. Should we find students eating peanuts or peanut products, the item will be taken away and returned to you after school. We appreciate your consideration for the well-being of all our students.
