September 24- update

Principal’s Remarks

Greetings folks!  With the first month of school quickly drawing to an end I’m reminded that seasons are quickly changing.  The warm summer mornings and afternoons are gradually being replaced by the chill in the air and impending winter.  Even the arch of the moon seems different at this time of the year.  It’s been a busy September- the staff have been meeting and planning out the year.  Field trips have been a highlight for many- including our amazing Outdoor Camp.  Teachers are frantically gathering baseline data on students and in the midst of Class Reviews (a process in which the teachers review with our School Based Team every student in the school).  We’ve completed two Fire Drills, Bookfair (thank you parents for your support and Ms Tornroos for organizing) our annual Terry Fox Run and one school-wide assembly.  In the coming weeks the staff will be charting a course as we embark upon setting a clear direction that we’d like the school to move in.   Much of this will relate to our School Plan, but some of this will be in the areas of technology, professional development, staff development, curriculum and other initiatives that various teachers are planning for the year.   Think of it as reflecting on our practise; and trying to discern what’s in the best interests of children- and how can we engage them with their teaching and learning experience at Maple Grove so that all our students experience success.  Maple Grove is an amazing school.  It’s a busy place with a highly professional and conscientious staff.  We want all our students to feel connected and engaged with their school experience so that they become amazing, socially responsible, contributing members of society.   We’re off to the races!

volunteers needed

Volunteers!

Many thanks for the fantastic support you have shown for all of our programs so far this school year at Maple Grove! We have had a great start and a generous show of support from many families!

We are looking for a few more class parents so that all of our teaches feel that support!  If any of the following divisions already have a volunteer in place, please email the coordinator Karrie Bogart at ckbogart@shaw.ca to let her know.

Divisions 2, 12, 13, 20

Thanks!  Karrie Harris Bogart

The Sale of Entertainment Books

The students at Maple Grove will be selling Entertainment Books (coupon books) to help raise funds for Grade 6 Camp. The cost is $30. They have 2-for-1 or discounts at restaurants, attractions and retail stores including Safeway, Choices and M & M Meatshops. Every student in grade 1-7 will bring one book home. This is the book you purchase, if you so wish. Unsold books or money should be returned to the classroom teacher by Thursday October 1st. Thank you for helping to support Grade 6 Camp. (*Please note, even though books are smaller this year they have the same number of coupons as in the past. Books are printed with double the number of coupons per page which saves on paper.)
