DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF RELIGION

I recently talked to some students about an incident where children had felt that their religion was being “put down”. It is very important that we as the adult part of our community model respect for all the different religions and cultures in our community and in the world. It is our modeling of saying positive things about all religions and cultures that will have more effect on our children’s attitudes and behavior than all the specific teaching that we can do in the classroom or school wide. Pink Day is coming up; we will all be wearing pink on that day. It is a wonderful opportunity to discuss with our children how we value all cultures and all people of all religions.

LUNAR NEW YEAR

Today a number of parents helped us to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Our primary students gathered to learn about different greetings, stories and crafts such as calligraphy and origami. Thank you very much to all the parents who contributed to the success of this event and to Elizabeth Chan, our SWIS worked who helped them by organizing and by buying materials.
