Today we had our Remembrance Day Ceremony. On November 11th across Canada and in many parts of the world we observe a minute of silence to honour the men and women who fought and may have lost their lives in wars to preserve our freedom as a nation. We have our ceremony at school and I hope that many students will also go to the local ceremonies on November 11th. If you cannot make it to the ceremony, it is nice to stand still and observe one minute of silence wherever you are.
Some special coins commemorating the unveiling of the statue in New Westminster of the iconic photograph, “Wait for Me Daddy” were donated to our school. These were given to 7 of our students and we hope that they will treasure them. The recipients were Ben M. and Armaan K. (the two MCs for our assembly) and Olivia K., Steven Q., Maria K., Sama A., and Meher M.

Recipients of the special “Wait for Me Daddy” coin, given by an anonymous donor. Ben M., Armaan K., Steven Q. (abs), Maria K., Sama A., Meher M., Olivia K.
WE Scare Hunger Update
The Global Citizenship Club has been campaigning for the Food Bank for the past two weeks. We are happy to report that 19 boxes of food have been donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank on behalf of the students and families from Maple Grove. That’s a whopping 650 pounds of food! Our total will be added to the national WE Scare Hunger campaign that is organized by Free the Children.
Thank you for your generousity and community spirit in making this food drive a huge success!
