June 27th Update

Dear Maple Grove Families:

As Ms Zeitz and I sat in our empty school for the last two weeks we have missed the students very much. Our teachers who have been outside on the picket line have been so sad not to have the usual celebrations and opportunities to say “Goodbye” for the summer. Ever teachers, they are spending much of their time discussing plans for the Fall and I know will come back with the same energy, enthusiasm and dedication that they always bring to making Maple Grove the best it can be.

Thank you so much to all the parents who have supported us in so many ways this year. The list is very long and includes all the programs, events and procedures that would not happen without you. These include: hot lunch, safe arrival, library help, help in the classroom and on field trips, coming as guest speakers, reading with students, raising money, giving input into the school plans, working on PAC, running the kilometer club and the choir, helping with the Sun Run team and coaching our basketball and volleyball teams. PAC events such as Spring Festival, Halloween Bingo and Movie night plus several parent education evenings were the result of the hard work and energy of many different people. There are so many ways in which you have helped us and contributed to our community. Just your presence in the school adds an additional dimension and enriches the experience of our students. Your role modeling of giving time as well as  money is a valuable lesson for all our students. Thank you.

THANK YOU TO GRADE OUR STUDENTS

To the Wonderful Families and Friends of Maple Grove

For the past two years I have been surrounded by caring, creative and critical thinking students who have amazed and taught me something new every day! So it is with sadness that I must say goodbye to the remarkable community of Maple Grove. Come September, I will be leaving for a new school and new challenges. It has been an absolute honour and privilege to be able to work and learn alongside your children in this dynamic school community, with such dedicate teachers, staff and principal. It is with a heavy heart but with many wonderful memories that I say a fond farewell…for now!

All the very best to each and every one of the Maple Grove community of learners!

This was a wonderful event starting with the Lion Dancers who came first into the gym followed by our proud Grade 7 students dressed very beautifully in their formal attire for the Hollywood Theme. After the ceremony during which various speeches were made and the students received their certificates, we had a community celebration. The ceremony was stylishly  Mced by Dr. John Aveline and Paula Temrick. The students had also prepared special booklets to honour and acknowledge every staff member.

In the evening we had a marvelous party with excellent food, music games, photo booths and a great deal of fun. This was all organized by a deicated parent committee lead by Paula Temrick. These were Janie Pang, Shad Ma. Jill Kin, Mona Atkinson, Eleanor Joie Arboleda, Andrea Potter, Cathie Cleveland, John Aveline, Shireen Ng, Naoko Horino, Maria Leung, Isabella Scandolari and Harry Ho. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful event.

THANKYOU TO BRYANA SPUR, MONA ATKINSON AND THEIR FAMILY AND TO THE GRADE 7s OF 2014

Grad3

I was very happy to accept on behalf of the school the legacy gift of a painting by Ron Salanas, member of Tsekani First Nations, of a bear, a symbol of family and strength representing our Maple Grove Community. Our Grade 7 students framed this for us as their legacy gift to the school. The picture will be hung outside the office. Thank you very much.

Grade 7 students may pick up their photographs and a copy of the program as a keep sake on Wednesday July 9th between 9:30 and 2:30 pm at the school.

LOST AT GRAD

There was a very pretty ring, two rather lovely masks and a white cardigan left after the grad. If you lost any of these you can pick it up at the school between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on Monday or on Wednesday afternoon. If you cannot come at those times, you can email me to determine other times when we will be in the school: ssellars@vsb.bc.caRing

Other students who are missing items may also come to the school to look for them.

Summer School

If you have registered for a summer program that takes place in a school for example Healthy Eaters and Leaders, all these programs have been postponed for one week. If the dispute between the BCTF and the government is resolved it may still be possible to run the programs. Check the VSB web site for up to date information.

PAC

The PAC meeting did not have a large enough attendance to finalize the new executive, This will take place in the Fall. There will be a meeting over the summer to begin looking at the budget.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER EVERYONE
