Plan to arrive at 6:45 pm Friday March 7th to watch our student-chosen movie Despicable Me. Thank you to PAC for organizing this.

parent teacher conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences next week.

Please remember that students will be dismissed at 2:00 on March 12 and 13 to accommodate parent teacher conferences. This is a lovely opportunity to celebrate your child’s work and talk with the teacher about his/her achievements.

Hot Lunch for April

Our hot lunch order routine will be a bit different for April due to Spring Break .  Envelopes and menus will go home with students on March 31.  The order forms and payments must be returned to the office by Friday, April 4.  You will notice that the menus and envelopes are a little different.  There is no tear-off to return.  You only need to return the envelope with your payment enclosed.  Please be sure to fully complete the form on the front of the envelope.

MAPLE GROVE PARENTS GRAD COMMITTEE

Greetings Maple Grove 2014 Grade 7 Students & Parents.
The Grade 7 students recently participated in a roundtable brainstorming workshop.  This forum provided them with the opportunity to table ideas for their June 23, 2014 elementary graduation.  From this forum we have created a survey both for students and their parents, to vote on their favourite ideas. The results will be the starting point for the planning committees to move forward.
Please complete this on-line survey  no later than TUESDAY MARCH 11th.  Please submit only one survey per family.

HERITAGE FAIR

Our students did some wonderful work on their projects for the Heritage Fair. After they had developed their critical question, they did research and presented their answers on a poster board. Many of them went further, making models, wearing costumes, role playing, creating board games and art work. Many thanks to our adjudicators and to Janet Miller from the Vancouver Museum who did so much to help Mr. Munk organize this event and worked with teachers and students helping them to understand critical thinking and how to ask a critical thinking question. This has supported our school wide goal which is to focus on Critical Thinking. Many of the projects were related to First Nations which supported another school goal to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of aboriginal culture and issues. Twenty of our students will be going forward to the regional finals in May. Thank you to all the teachers who gave up their evening and worked so hard to make this happen.

Montessori Parent Committee Update:

As we prepare for the final term of the year, here is an update on what has happened so far and our plans for the remainder of the school year.

Direct Donation:  Every September, the Montessori Parent Committee prepares a budget and determines the funds that need to be raised to support the program.  Our goal was to raise $9,700 this year.  For the first time we coordinated our campaign with the PAC.  The suggested donation amount was $150/student with $75 to the Montessori program and $75 to the PAC.   As of December 31st we had collected $5,677.50 or 58% of our goal.  Thank you very much to all of the families that have donated.  Your donations are tax deductible and so important for maintaining the classroom materials and providing support to our teachers.  If your child is in the Montessori program and you have not donated $75, there is still time.  We will accept cheques made payable to the Maple Grove PAC until May 31.  If you have any questions, please contact the Committee Chair, Kelley Marlow, at 604-418-8272 or kelleymarlow@gmail.com.

Upcoming Montessori events:

April 15 at 7pm in the Library: Parent Education Night #2: Student led Demonstrations.

April 28 during Pro-D day: St. John Ambulance Babysitting Course:  For students aged 10 – 14 we are offering the course at the school.  The cost is $49/student and there are 18 spots.  Contact Kelley Marlow for more information and to sign up.

Grade 7 Grad

On March 5, several  parents met to kickstart the Planning for the Grade 7 Graduation.    The Parent Steering Committee will be sending out an  email survey today (Friday) regarding the graduation ceremony and activities.   We ask that all grade 7 parents complete the online survey with their child by Monday March 10, 2014.   In order to make this celebration a success we encourage everyone to provide input and get involved. Thank you.   Andrea Potter

DESTINATION IMAGINATION

The school had 8 teams of students lead by Mrs. Humeniuk and Ms Griffiths in the Destination Imagination event last Saturday. Our teams did very well and students learn a great deal from participating in this competition. Teachers volunteer their time to make this possible and their work and dedication is much appreciated.
