Maple Grove Spelling Bee
Congratulations to our two winners of last Friday’s Spelling Bee. Areeb was the runner up and Jessie came first. They are both amazing spellers and there were some very difficult words. Congratulations to all our brave spellers. We are very proud of you all.
YOUNG CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS INVITED TO OUR READY SET LEARN EVENT. Please read the poster above for details.
VOCABULARY DAY TODAY
We had some amazing and creative costumes today. Some people made up their own word as the “bluetiful” pair (Cindy and Enika) below and Imogen chose the word “amazing”. Thank you to all who participated and to student council for sponsoring this fun event.
GRADE 7 PARENTS
You are invited to attend a meeting in the school library at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, February 12th to discuss end of year celebrations. This is a very important occasion for our students as they prepare to transition into High School. Please consider coming to this meeting to provide your input and help make plans.
What is MEND?
MEND empowers children and families to become fitter and healthier. This free program is fun and interactive and supports 7-13 year old children and their families to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
MEND 7-13 is for children 7-13 year olds who are above a healthy weight (body mass index (BMI) of 85 per cent or higher). You can calculate your child’s BMI at: apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi.
© Parents/caregivers join their children in each session to learn about how to choose healthier foods and spend more time being physically active.
© Twice-weekly sessions are a mix of family activities where we show you how small changes can make a big difference.
© Practical demonstrations, games and tips about healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes.
© Fun physical activity sessions for the kids in a non-judgmental environment.
© Participants and their family will receive YMCA memberships to use during the duration of the program and for an additional 3 months afterwards.
© After 10 weeks, you and your family will be well on your way to a healthier life!

MINISTRY SATISFACTION SURVEY
Parents of students in Grades 4 and 7 – Let us know how you feel about our school.
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Each year the BC Ministry of Education invites parents and guardians of children in Grades 4 and 7 to complete a Satisfaction Survey of questions to find out about your views on the school environment, safety and academic achievement. This survey is about Maple Grove School rather than the school system in general. The Satisfaction Survey is available in many languages so that parents/guardians can respond in their first language. Children in grades 4 and 7 will also complete a Satisfaction Survey.
The survey is available on-line and it will take approximately 10 minutes for you to complete. The survey can be found on the following website: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm
Access to the survey is easy and secure. You will need to use a logon number that is available at the school office. You can get your logon number by contacting Jane Peters by phone, email or in person at the office. If you would like to use a school computer to complete the survey, please contact the school office to make arrangements.
The Ministry of Education encourages parents to participate in the Satisfaction Survey. The results are helpful in identifying school strengths and determining areas for improvement.
UBC Study of Happiness in Parents and Children
Dr. Mark Holder and researchers from UBC are conducting a study on wellbeing in children/adolescents and their parents. The study simply involves responding to questionnaires about happiness, life satisfaction, gratitude, hope, economic values, spirituality, and demographic variables.
If you and your child participate, you will each be entered in a draw to win 2 free movie passes.
If you have any questions, please contact undergraduate students Tara and Sarah at economicsofhappiness14@gmail.com. For more information, and to access our study please visit: www.surveymonkey.com/s/eoh
