Happy Chinese New Year

Winning Entries “The Year of the Horse” Art Competition.

We had 51 entries for our competition. Mrs. Peters and I had a very challenging time trying to decide on winners as there were some lovely entries and quite a range in ages. We decided not to give First, Second and Third but to give the award to a group of winners. These students all received a book prize on horses. They were: Megan West, Bonnie Feng, Sarah Tomlinson, Amy Cheng, Longman Luo and Isabelle Wolodko.

Fantastic Feast for Lunar New Year!

On Wednesday Jan 29th Maple Grove staff were treated to a very special Lunar New Year lunch! A wide variety of delicious dishes we provided by many of our parents. This was very appreciated by staff as they enjoyed everything from hai gow, chicken wings, dumplings and red bean cakes. It is with gratitude and thanks to our families who contributed to this feast and a special thank-you to our wonderful SWIS worker Elisabeth Chan for organizing this event.

we are love

WE ARE LOVE

The Global Citizenship Club will be selling pins next week before and after school.  The money collected will be donated to Free the Children Foundation.  They are a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day.  The pins are $2 each and every button comes with a card that tells a story about how love can change the world.

Maple Grove Elementary – Pink Shirt Day

February 26th is Pink Shirt Day at Maple Grove, and at most other schools across Canada.  This day highlights anti-bullying in our schools and acceptance of all students.  One way we show our commitment to these ideals is by wearing pink on February 26th.

In order for students to be a part of this initiative we have arranged for the purchase of a Pink T-Shirt with a black Maple Grove logo on the left chest.

We would ask you to consider purchasing one of these t-shirts for your child to wear on February 26.  You can check out the sizes in the front hall for 4 days only, before school from 8:45 to 9:00 am and after school from 3:00 to 3:15 pm next week.

salmon

Division 11 (Kindergarten) is participating in the Department of Fisheries and Oceans “Salmonids in the Classroom” program.

On Wednesday, January 29, our salmon eggs arrived.  When they hatch and become fry, we will be taking them to Beaver Creek in Stanley Park to release them.
