THE HALLOWEEN FOR HUNGER CAMPAIGN NEEDS YOUR HELP!

October 28th to November 8th

We will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank before and after school next week. Students and staff are encouraged to bring donations to help hungry families in Greater Vancouver. We will have donation boxes outside the school office all week. The Food Bank suggests items such as bags of rice, beans, canned fruit and vegetables, whole wheat pasta, canned meats and fish and low-sugar cereals. We appreciate any help that you can give. This project is proudly sponsored by the Global Citizenship Club.

LOST AND FOUND

Arbutus Day care

Hello Maple Grove Families!

We hope that you are having a wonderful fall. We have had a busy and fantastic couple of months with all the kids and we are getting excited for all of our winter festivities!  We have just had an amazing Halloween party with our Out of School care children with a haunted house and a song and dance performance. The parents were able to see all the hard work their children put in and connect with each other with snacks and socializing.

We are still picking children up from Maple Grove School for Out of School Care and have some spaces open. We would love to have you come and see our space explore our program with your children. It is such a fun, active and inclusive place to be. We encourage you to get in touch to see what we are all about!

Please feel free to contact us at the above number or email and check out our information on our website.

Sincerely,

Jen Wong & Theresa Page

Drop Everything and Read

On Monday the whole school started to read at 11:00 am in the library (primaries were read to) and in the gym. Everybody liked it so much that we went over the originally intended twenty minutes. It is lovely to see all our Maple Grove students so into books.

 HALLOWEEN

We had a wonderful day yesterday with Halloween parades, assemblies, the Haunted House run by student council, parties and creative Halloween centres for our primary students. Our doors were decorated beautifully, and the students had wonderful costumes. I am looking forward to seeing them again this evening at Halloween Bingo. Below you can see pictures of our wonderful decorated doors and children.

REMEMBRANCE DAY AND COLOUR PARTY.

On Friday we will have our Remembrance Day Ceremony. During this event, students who belong to organizations such as cubs, scouts, brownies, guides, beavers etc. are invited to join our Colour Party. This group wears their uniforms and brings the flags forward to the stage as part of the ceremony. The students were invited to a meeting today and will bring home letters. Students who missed the meeting may still collect a letter from the office. All students must attend the practices which will be called next week.

CODE RED DRILL

We have many different drills at school: fire, earthquake, intruder, emergency etc. Today we had a Code Red Drill. Code Red is used when there is an intruder in the school. All students are brought into closed classrooms, the doors are locked and the curtains drawn. They stay quietly until the ALL CLEAR or CODE GREEN is announced. It is very unlikely that we will ever have to use these procedures for real, but it is important to be prepared for all eventualities that might threaten the safety of our children. I am putting this in the blog just in case some younger students thought it was a real Code Red and not just a drill.
