GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAMS – Volunteers sought.
Thank you to Janie Pang and Winnie Hon for volunteering to coach the girl’s senior and junior volleyball teams. We are looking for some additional volunteers to help with this. Thank you also to Ms Hales and Mr. Johnson as the teachers sponsoring the teams.
All grade 6 girls interested in joining the junior girls’ volleyball team are invited to attend a sign-up meeting in Mr. Johnson’s room (Room 205) on Wednesday, October 16 at Recess. We are very lucky to have Winnie Hon as the team’s volunteer coach. Mr. Johnson will be the team’s sponsor teacher. We hope to find an additional parent to help with coaching and driving team members to games. If you are able to volunteer, please email Winnie at winniehon79@hotmail.com. We hope to see a good number of grade 6 girls at our Wednesday meeting.
CHOIR
We are still exploring our options but hope that we can have our choir in place by the end of October.
SECURITY, SUPERVISION AND DOORS LOCKED
Please note the following:
Students should be picked up before 3:15 pm.
If they are not picked up they will be brought into the office so that we can contact parents or emergency contacts. Students may not play unsupervised on the school playgrounds.
Doors are locked at 3:30 pm except for the front door which is locked at 4:00 pm.
For after-school programs, students will be dismissed from the boy’s basement, and parents can pick them up from the undercover area.
At the next PAC meeting (October 17th) we will be voting on the budget, posted here for your review. Maple Grove PAC 2013-2014 Budget v2. The budget this year is not as ambitious, as we are not expecting any significant expenditures such as the iPad lab last year. The key budget items include the Artist in Residence program for K through 7, classroom allowances, and the purchase of library books. In order to fund these programs we will rely on existing funds, the gaming grant, as well as a direct donation campaign which will launch as soon as the budget is approved. As always, PAC is committed to programs that benefit all of the children at Maple Grove. If you have any questions on the budget, please come out to the next PAC meeting to discuss them with your PAC committee.

THANKFULNESS ASSEMBLY
Today we had an assembly to celebrate what we are thankful for. We were pleased to welcome Mr. Henry Charles of the Musqueam First Nation to give us a traditional welcome. He told us a story about how the Musqueam got their name.
Several classrooms performed. We had elaborate cheers about thankfulness from Divisions 1, 4 and 6. We had a delightful song by Raffi called “Thanks a Lot” sung by Divisions 18 and 19. We also had a message from the Global Citizenship Club about the importance of Walking to School and also their plans to collect food as part Hallowe’en for Hunger.
