Variety Club Gold Heart Pins on Sale!
The Global Citizenship Club is sponsoring the Variety Club pin sale from February 4th to 13th. This year the theme is Monsters Inc. Student representatives will come to your child’s classroom daily to sell the pins. Pins will cost a minimum of a $3 donation each.
On February 14th, we ask that everyone with a pin to wear it proudly to school. All of the proceeds will go to the Variety Club of B.C. We only have a limited number of pins, so get your pins before they are gone!
VPD comes to Maple Grove
We had the Vancouver Police Department come to Maple Grove on Wednesday for all the right reasons! Four of Vancouver’s finest came out for a very friendly game with our senior boys and girls basketball players. Scores were not important in this game but community spirit and a great work-out together were! Many thanks to coach Mr Munk for helping to organize the game!
Maple Grove Spelling Bee
Congratulations to all those who participated in the spelling bee. We had 150 contestants and the competition went for several more rounds than ever before. We felt really proud of our spellers. Here is our winner for 2013. Congratulations Adrienne.
Turn off the Screen Week
We had 150 participants in Turn Of the Screen Week. Well done to all those who accepted the challenge. Here are the winners of the draw:
Junior Girls Basketball
The Junior Girls basketball team played their second game of the season on Tuesday after school. It was a nail-biter! With two minutes left in the game the score was tied at 28-28. The girls went on to win their game against McKechnie with a score of 35-30. Sabrina’s mom and dad, Steve and Janie, are the team coaches. Ms Hales and Mrs. Wong are our sponsor teachers.
Sharon Hales, the team sponsor, Terry Chen, a proud mom, and Mona Atkinson, another proud mom formed Maple Grove’s cheerleading team at our away game on Tuesday.
Special thanks go to Mr. Naipaul for refereeing our first two games of the season.
CHINESE NEW YEAR IS COMING
Look out for the Year of the SNAKE. Next Friday is Red and Gold Day. All students are asked to wear red or yellow or traditional costume. Parents, you are invited to come to the library at 8:30 to meet and mingle and share Fortune Cookies. Mrs. Sellars will read a story for primary children. Please come and join us.

Community Schools After-School Programs
(Please see January 18th post for more information.) There are still spots available in FANTASTIC FOODS: a program for children to learn baking and have fun. PACIFIC FIRST AID BABYSITTING PROGRAM: a very valuable skill for all Grade 6 and Grade 7 students who might like to earn a little extra pocket money. **Brochures for program registration are at Maple Grove’s main office. Deadline has been extended to Tuesday, February 5th. **
