Tomorrow is a Professional Development Day – No School for Students
Enjoy your long weekend!
Montessori Education Evening
December 5th 2012 7:00 pm Library
Everyone is welcome. Christie Stanford will be presenting some more ideas about the Montessori philosophy and practice.
CHOIR
I am happy to let you know that Mrs. Garnett is recovering and expects to be back on Wednesday, December 5th 2012.
Movie Making Competition and the Virtues Project
Student Council is planning to sponsor a competition for students or groups to make a short movie (3 minutes maximum) that is related to one of the virtues in our VIRTUES project. The prize has yet to be determined, but will include showing the winning movies at an assembly. The movie can be made by an individual or a group. Students can work on the movie during the holidays, but it will not be due until January 17th 2013. Students will have to complete an entry form stating who worked on the movie and what virtues (s) are being represented.
Here is a list of some of the virtues:
caring, cleanliness, commitment, compassion, courage, courtesy, creativity, friendliness, helpfulness, honesty, generosity, idealism, kindness, loyalty, modesty, orderliness, respect, reliability, responsibility, trustworthiness, truthfulness.
There are more virtues listed on the posters in every classroom. Students may also choose a virtue that is not on that list. One idea for making a movie might be to use the characters from our Social Learning Program that many classes are using. This is the superflex program, and characters include the Unthinkables, who are the anti-virtue characters that students learn to resist.
Holiday Hamper Drive
December 3rd to December 14th
Our school will be sponsoring 14 families from our sister school, Nightingale Elementary, during our Holiday Hamper Drive. Each family will be given a box of non-perishable food, household items, small gifts and a gift card to purchase groceries. We need your help to make this annual tradition a huge success.
Donations should be brought to your child’s classroom and put in the donation bins. We are also asking for a $ 2.00 donation to be put towards the grocery store gift cards.
Winter Concert – December 19th, 2012
The teachers and students of Maple Grove would like to invite family members to our Winter Concert. Music for the season will be sung by our classes for your delight.
Every family is guaranteed two tickets to the concert. A ticket gives you admission but not necessarily a seat, as this allows us to have a greater number of people in the gym while complying with fire regulations.
To obtain your tickets, you must complete the order form and return it to the classroom teacher by December 5th . If you have more than one child in the school, please send the form in to your eldest child’s teacher.
You’ll be receiving an order form for tickets today or early next week. Please watch for it. Orders must be returned to the school by Wednesday, December 5th.
Times: Matinee at 1:15 pm; and Evening at 7:00 pm
(Students arrive in the evening at 6:30 pm and go to their classrooms).
Junior Girls Volleyball
Congratulations to the Junior Girls volleyball team who played their final tournament on Tuesday. The girls had a fantastic season and it was a pleasure to watch them improve from their first practice back in October to their final game a few nights ago. A special thank you goes to Janie Pang, a parent at our school, who volunteered her time before school and after school to coach our team. The girls are already talking about next season!
