Thank you

The Global Citizenship Club would like to thank all of the Maple Grove students and staff who contributed to our Halloween for Hunger campaign.  We managed to reach our collection goal with your help. In total, we will be sending 12 boxes of non-perishable food to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.

Coming up in December, we will be collecting for our annual Holiday Hampers. Our school will be supporting families in need at our sister school, Nightingale Elementary. More information will be coming in a few weeks.

Supervision after School

If you are going to be late picking up your child, it is important that you phone the school. Students under the age of thirteen are expected to be supervised. Some intermediate students walk home by themselves, and this is acceptable with the permission of their parents. They must go home and then may come back to play on the playground. Students who are not with a parent or care-giver at 3:15 pm will be brought to the office and wait there to be picked up. If the office staff are not able to stay until a child is picked up, then the Ministry of Families could be called to provide supervision. The office closes at 3:30 pm.

Girls’ Volleyball Away Game

Senior and Junior Bands

Our two bands played well at their first concert of the season at Magee Secondary. Congratulations to the students for their hard work, and our thanks to Mr. Matthewson for his dedication.

Choir 

Choir began practising yesterday. We still have space for more people to join. I would strongly encourage this as a way to improve English Language skills both for ESL learners and those for whom it is their first language. Singing improves articulation and pronunciation. The repetition of vocabulary, phrases and clauses provides a learning experience closer to the natural experience of an infant learning a language.

Global Citizenship Club Bake Sale

The Global Citizenship Club will be having a bake sale on Wednesday, November 21 at recess in the boys’ basement.  All items are $1.00.  Proceeds go to the Bennett Family fundraiser.
