November 8th Update

Remembrance Day

Today we held our Remembrance Day Ceremony during which we remember all those who fought and died in wars, and those who died as peace-keepers. While remembering those who have fallen with gratitude for their sacrifices, we were grateful for the peaceful country we live in and thought about how peace could begin with each one of us. Thank you to all the students who sang, recited poems, wrote poems and read to us about what Remembrance Day means. Thank you also to all the members of staff who worked so hard to support them. In particular, thank you to Mr. Naipaul for setting up for us, and to Mrs. Tornroos who organized the assembly.

I hope that you will consider marking a minute’s silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which was the day that marked the end of World War I.

FOUR DAY WEEKEND

We hope that you all enjoy your four day weekend which promises some lovely fall weather. There is no school on Friday or Monday.

Global Citizenship Club needs your spare change!

The Global Citizenship Club will be collecting donations for Katrina and Mark Bennett who are close family members of the Gunn Family (Emma and Ethan) of Maple Grove.  The young parents of two have recently been diagnosed with cancer. Mark has been diagnosed with colon cancer and Katrina has lymphoma.  The couple is expected to deal with 10 months of chemotherapy and radiation.  We would like to show support as they are facing financial difficulties due to being off work.

We will be collecting donations before and after school outside the office, November 13-23.

Global TV ran a story on the Bennetts in October.  You can follow the link to see the full story.  http://www.globaltvbc.com/cancer-stricken+parents+of+two+young+children+need+help+in+their+battle/6442732919/story.html

 Thank you.

Fundraiser for Grade 6 Camp

Grade six students will be going to Camp May 21 to 23.  We are having a fundraiser to help defer some of the costs.  We are hoping that each grade six student will sell 40 chocolate bars or more.  Each $2.00 chocolate bar sold will bring $1.00 for camp.  We need your support.  Parents from any grade are encouraged to help sell chocolate bars too.  (Students are not expected to go door-to-door.).  Chocolate bars will be distributed on Monday, November 19th.  Collected money and/or unsold chocolate bars must be returned to the classroom teacher by Wednesday, December 12th.  Thank you!
