I am so pleased to welcome you to Maple Grove School for the 2012-2013 school year. I look forward to seeing you at the Welcome Tea at 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 4th in the library. Please come if you can.
Children in grades 1 to 7 will be attending class for one hour on September 4th. Information as to where to go will be posted at entry points to the school. Most students will return to the classroom where they were last year. New students will be directed differently according to grade level. Please pick your child up at 10:00 am immediately after the welcome tea. Kindergarten students will start on the 5th and should have received their gradual entry schedule from Ms Hales, Mrs. Lam or Ms Greyhurst.
We are hoping to have children move into their provisional classes for the year on Wednesday, September 5th. Please be aware that re-staffing can sometimes lead to subsequent changes.
More detailed information will be sent home with your child on Wednesday or Thursday and our blog will be updated on Friday. We will request school fees later (about $25 for supplies and about $8.50 for the agenda). There will also be information about the hot lunch program which will start on Thursday, September 6th. Please send a lunch with your child on Wednesday, September 5th.
The hot lunch program for kindergarten students will not start until September 17.
On Wednesday, last year’s kindergarten students will meet our new Vice Principal, Andrea Zeitz, in the gym. On Tuesday they will have received a colour-coded label showing their new division. They will be able to find their colour and then wait to be taken to their new classes.
School starts each day at 9:00 am. Lunch is from 12:10 – 12:57 pm and dismissal is at 3:00 pm. Please click on pages here for the 2012-2013 school calendar, bell schedule, September hot lunch menu, and code of conduct. Information about fees, agendas, school supply fees and our PAC donation program will be coming to you in the first week of school.
Traffic Safety around our school is a challenge. A dedicated team of parents work to promote traffic safety. Please watch for the signs, obey the Highway Code and requests from our volunteers and staff. We encourage you to allow your child the benefits of walking to school, by parking a little distance from the school. Students do not enter by the front door unless accompanied by an adult, as the driveway at the front of the school is not a safe pedestrian area.
We hope that Maple Grove will continue to be active in promoting sustainability. To this end we try to make most of our communications by email and/or through this blog.
Our first focus for the year will be courtesy and punctuality. Please help us by encouraging your children to value these virtues.
Maple Grove is a friendly place where we hope that children feel happy, safe and full of enthusiasm to learn. Our parent community is active, friendly and always looking for opportunities to welcome and include new friends.
Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
Warm regards
