Sports Day was fun!!
Kilometer club is celebrating another successful year. Students who participated on a regular basis received an invitation to a celebration party. Thank you to our parent volunteers who tirelessly ran this club; rain, snow or shine, three mornings per week, from the first week to the last week of school. Kilometer club members have improved their fitness. The following is a list of these dedicated volunteer parents:
Susan Lin, Stuart Mackenzie, Maureen Wicken , Maggie Zhu, Jodie Brown, Jenny Chen, Sharon Fancher, Janie Pang, Raymond Chan, Gurprit Mann, Sarah Blais, Sandra Franke, Cindy Cheong, Linda Zhang, Sarah McNeill, Dalit Tzafrir, Gordana Katic, Michelle Palibroda.
Next school year will be my last year at Maple Grove. I feel that this is an appropriate time for me to step down to allow the transition to a new coordinator for the Kilometre Club. Of course I will, with pleasure, stay on to help and mentor in any way possible. The Kilometer Club is looking for a parent co-ordinator for 2012-2013 .
If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Mary Ann Lo by email at email@example.com.
Thank you again to all the parent volunteers.
Without your support we would not have this important club at our school.
Maple Grove families: please encourage your kids to come out to keep active & run with us!

Fitness and Daily Physical Activity – THANK YOU to Mary Ann
Thank you so much to Mary Ann Lo who has initiated, promoted and organized this very important part of Maple Grove. She has always worked tirelessly to make sure that we have an active Kilometre Club and that students and volunteers are recognized and their efforts valued.
Please consider what you might do to support her work and leave your own legacy at Maple Grove as co-ordinator for the Kilometre Club. I know that Mary Ann will give much help in this area, and we in the office will certainly support anybody in this endeavour. You can contact Mary Ann or me to find out more about this. Mrs. Sellars
MUSIC AT MAPLE GROVE – JOIN CHOIR AND BAND
Please respond to our survey about Choir:
Music is a very important part of a child’s education. We are lucky at Maple Grove to have a wonderful band teacher, Mr. Matthewson, whom I am happy to tell you will be continuing next year. Ideally every Grade 6 and 7 student would participate in the band program and take advantage of this excellent opportunity.
Similarly we have a PAC sponsored choir which is also a wonderful opportunity to learn music, have fun, gain the experience of performing and practice good English. Learning English through singing is one of the recognized ways for students to learn correct language structure and vocabulary so it is doubly valuable for our ESL students.
This year choir practiced after school on Wednesday. We are interested in knowing whether a different afternoon would suit more people. Please consider filling in the survey to inform us of how we should offer this program. Next year we will be opening up the choir to students from Grade 1 – 7.
END OF YEAR
The end of the school year is fast approaching. There are so many enjoyable events and celebrations for our children’s learning, with parties and dances, picnics and field trips, all organized by our wonderful teachers because they love their students. Every year teachers have to say goodbye to some or even all of their students as they move to other schools or simply are promoted to the next grade. They have put their whole hearts into the education of your children. Thank you to the PAC for the gifts given to all our staff. This gesture was very much appreciated.
Thank you to Student Council who once again will be sponsoring a fun event on the last day. June 28th will be COLOURS DAY.
Each grade is asked to wear as much as possible of their designated colour. If children do not have those colours in their wardrobe, maybe they can adapt a piece of a sibling’s or parent’s clothing, or make a paper hat. Here are the colours:
Grade 1 Pink
Grade 2 Red
Grade 3 Blue
Grade 4 Green
Grade 5 Purple
Grade 6 Yellow
Grade 7 White
Teachers Rainbow – wear as many different bright colours as possible.
VIRTUE OF THE MONTH – COURAGE
My favourite virtue is the one we end the year with. Why is it my favourite? Because it often takes courage to act on the other virtues. It takes a courageous person to do what is right when others are doing what is wrong; it takes a courageous person to be honest, truthful, kind, forgiving, generous when others are not. Leading by example is the best way of leading. There are many many students at Maple Grove who choose to do the right thing, even when it is hard. We do notice this. Everyone, parents, office staff, teachers, SSWs and administration notice that our students are good people, who try to make good choices, even if the decision is not easy. We are all very proud of our students.
It takes courage to stand up and perform and I am happy to say that we have about 18 primary students and 18 intermediate students who have come forward to share their talents at our talent show. Parents are reminded that students who need music should have provided me with a CD with the music by now. Monday is really too late, but I will try to accommodate them if the CD comes in first thing on Monday morning.
The Talent Show starts on Tuesday at 1:15 pm for primary students and at the same time for intermediate students on Wednesday.
Lost and Found
Big Brothers will be picking up the remaining items in the Lost and Found next week. Please have a look on the tables outside the office before Monday at 4pm, in case there is something that belongs to you.
