THINK PINK – PINK DAY IS COMINGOn Wednesday February 29th we want every single student to wear pink. Not just a bit of pink – a lot of pink. That way we can show that Maple Grove stands up for tolerance, acceptance and kindness and against bullying and unkindness. At 12:55 pm we will have a PINK HAPPENING on the Intermediate Playground. Parents are invited to join our school community in this short (ten minutes) THINK PINK EVENT. Come and support your children as they stand up for a good, kind, tolerant, honest and generous society. SCIENCE FAIR IS COMING ON THURSDAY MARCH 8thPlease plan on coming to our science fair. It will take place throughout the school for most of the day. We encourage as many parents as possible to come to the science fair and support students by asking them about their projects and giving them positive feedback. By encouraging students to talk to you about their projects, you will be helping us with our oral language goal this year as well as supporting the science curriculum. Here are some suggestions for questions you can ask students about their projects. 1. What inspired you to choose this topic? 2. What did you learn from doing this project? 3. What was the most fun part of your project? 4. What was the hardest thing about this project? 5. Describe your process. 6. How did you divide the work with your partner? 7. What would you do differently next time? Survey re Calendar for 2012 2013Have you submitted your response yet? Lost and FoundThe season is trying to change, and our Lost and Found is overflowing. There are lots of hats, gloves, scarves, lunch boxes, helmets, boots, etc., etc. Please have a look if you are missing anything. It’s in the Girl’s Basement. You can’t miss it! Thank you!The students had a wonderful time at Movie Night. We would like to acknowledge Yvette Hoptioncann and Cindy Cheong. Their hard work ensured a successful evening. Thank you! Aboriginal Education Vancouver School BoardAboriginal Focus School The VSB is excited about its newAboriginal Focus School that will house high quality programming based on provincial standards within Aboriginal content and context. While an Aboriginal Focus School cannot include all Aboriginal history and/or culture, it will include common core values that honor ancestry, respect the land, foster experiential learning, focus on the importance of family and community, the teachings of the medicine wheel, etc. Recent community forums showed broad support for an Aboriginal school of choice, not mandatory and not segregating Aboriginal students. Our Aboriginal Focus School will be open to everyone who believes in the concept whether or not they are Aboriginal. Our school will start with only a few grades to ensure that things are done well, and then build upon that foundation in future years. In helping the VSB plan an Aboriginal Focus School location and initial grade targets, please go to the following on-line survey to register your interest in and commitment to Vancouver’s newest strategy to provide equity and opportunity to our Aboriginal learners: http://www.vsb.bc.ca/aboriginal-school If you would prefer to fill out a hard copy version of the survey, please return your completed form to the school office. Survey responses will be accepted through to March 1st.
