Pink Shirt Day – February 29th
Be sure to order your $10.00 pink T-Shirts by January 30th.
See the order form here: Pink Shirt Day. The order forms were sent home with each child this week. You can also pick one up outside the office on January 30th, before and after school.
Pink shirt day is an occasion when we all wear pink to acknowledge our support for tolerance and for valuing every person, no matter who they are, or to which group they belong. This is a Canada-wide event. Buying a PINK SHIRT will support Student Council and our sister school, Nightingale. The PINK SHIRT DAY also ties in with our focus virtues for February which are Tolerance, Kindness and Love. We are planning a school wide event for the afternoon of February 29th. More details will follow. If everyone buys a pink shirt, it will be easier for everyone to wear pink. We want to show that our community supports tolerance and exhibits kindness to all.
LUNAR NEW YEAR
Student Council celebrated the first day of the Lunar New Year by escorting our own lion dancers, Piper and Emily, through the school to deliver red envelopes containing gold chocolate coins.
DRAGON ART COMPETITION RESULTS
We were very pleased to have 98 entries for our Dragon Art competition. All the entries can be seen either on the bulletin board in the main hall or on bulletin boards in the open area on the 2nd floor. The quality of the art was very good and Student Council had a difficult time determining the winners.
Primary Winner: Chantelle Soong, Div 19, Gr 3 – The Kaleidoscope Dragon
Intermediate Winner: Melissa Zheng, Div 4, Grade 5 The Dragon King
MOVIE NIGHT IS COMING UP – February 10th, 5:30 pm in the gym.

TURN OFF THE SCREEN WEEK
This has been turn off the screen week – a great way to show self-discipline. Many students participated and the prize winners will be announced next week. Congratulations to all those who were able to do without the screen and find many interesting and healthy things to do instead.
Family Literacy Day
This Friday a special literacy day was held. Parents were welcomed into many classes. There were lots of students attending CAMP READ in different classes in the school. It was a fine end to our Turn Off the Screen week.
Vancouver Sun Run
Just a reminder that we would like lots of students and parents to join us for the Sun Run on April 15th. It is such fun for all of us to know that we are running in the Sun Run as a team, and it is also a way to celebrate our achievements as runners and members of the Kilometre Club. Remember, training for the Sun Run is a great way to exercise self-discipline.
Registration details are available in front of the school office and from Mr. Munk in Room 305. You can also check our blog entry for January 6th for more details.
Participants in our Sun Run Team will receive one of our very special Maple Grove Water Bottles.
DOCUMENTATION CHARGES – $5.00
As of March 1st 2012, we will be introducing a small charge for documentation requests. The charge will reflect the extra workload for the office and the use of office materials. This charge of $5.oo will be applied for items such as letters regarding attendance at Maple Grove, verification letters, photocopying and copies of report cards that have been lost. We appreciate your co-operation with respect to this.
Maple Grove Basketball
The Senior Boys’ and the Senior Girls’ basketball teams began their seasons this past week, playing their games at Maple Grove. Even though neither team came away with a victory, both teams played extremely well and enjoyed every minute of it. Come on out and support your Wildcats at their next home game. The girls played Southlands on Thursday and the boys will play Kerrisdale on Wednesday Feb. 1st. GO WILDCATS GO!
