CHINESE NEW YEAR AND DRAGON ART COMPETITION – ENTER THE DRAGON

Student Council is sponsoring an ART COMPETITION.  Draw or paint the best dragon you can. It can be fierce or friendly, weird, fire-breathing, flying, guarding treasure, looking sad or whatever you can think of. YOU MUST  PRINT ON THE BACK OF YOUR ENTRY: Name (first and last), Division, Grade and the Title of your picture. There will be two prizes: One for primary and one for intermediate ($20 gift cards for Chapters).  Deadline to hand in your art work will be Friday, January 20th. Judging and prizes awarded will be on the first day of Chinese New Year, January 23rd.  Drop off your entry in the box in the office.

Enthusiasm is being excited about life and being open to the wonders of each day. People who are enthusiastic do things whole-heartedly, with zeal and eagerness, holding nothing back. They often live in the moment and appreciate what they have, finding joy in simple pleasures. Good cheer and optimism often go along with enthusiasm and those who are enthusiastic also look forward, imagining what is possible, and believing that it can be achieved. Enthusiastic people are good to be around.

FAMILY LITERACY WEEK AND TURN OFF THE SCREEN WEEK  JAN 23RD – JAN 27TH

BOOKS – THE OTHER CHANNEL  – YEAR 2

During the first five days of Lunar New Year, please join us in turning off the screen. Ban TV, video, computer games in your home. This is a very good week to focus on family activities: visiting, games, conversations, meals together, family outings, physical activities etc. You can choose to read to each other from newspapers, journals, books and magazines. Listening to or making music together is another wonderful way for families to share creative time together. How about planning that week right now?

Watch out for a letter coming home to use to record what days students turned off the screen. Students who turn off the screen will have their names entered in a draw for a prize from Vancouver Kidsbooks.

CRAZY HAIR DAY

We had some fantastic and creative hair styles on Crazy Hair Day. Go to Mrs. Hales’ Blog,  http://sharonhales.wordpress.com/ to see some great pictures, including our ever crazy PAC CHAIR, Mr.  Porter, with some especially crazy hair.

Safe Arrival Program

Maple Grove’s Safe Arrival Program is run by Parent Volunteers. It is a very important program.  The Parent Volunteers check any unexplained absences and this  ensures our students are where they are supposed to be, and safe.  We can always use more help.  If you have an hour or so a week, we’d love you to sign up for training.  Please call or send a note to the school office if you’d like to help.
